Disposal
Where the debris goes
Haulers pass disposal costs on to you, so it helps to know the sites. Some take the public, some take only commercial trucks. Call before driving a load anywhere.
Marion County
South Side Landfill
2561 Kentucky Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46221. Phone 317-247-6808. Open Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Sunday; call about holidays. It is the only municipal solid waste landfill in Marion County on IDEM's permitted list. It takes household and office waste and general construction and demolition debris such as lumber, shingles and brick, from residents and businesses. Cash customers pay by volume: full rate table.
Citizens' Transfer Station
2324 S. Belmont Ave. Saturdays only, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extra household trash, heavy trash and bagged leaves. $2 a carload or $5 for an SUV or pickup, cash, up to two trips a day. Things that do not go in a dumpster or the trash
- Electronics: Indiana law (IC 13-20.5) bars them from household trash. Marion County residents can use ToxDrop sites.
- Household hazardous waste: paints, solvents, chemicals and the like go to ToxDrop.
- Whole tires: landfills cannot accept them under IC 13-20-14-1. South Side Landfill handles tires separately at $16 to $200 each.
